Moving in Japan

26th April 2007

Yes, it is soon time for me to move here in Japan. Here people use a moving company. Rent a truck and haul your own stuff can of course be done, but when full service is available why not use it. So, we browsed the net for moving companies and sent out a few e-mails to request prices. On a Sunday. A few MINUTES later they ALL called back.

They wanted to send salesmen to our house for sitting down with us to give their offers. When would we be around the house? Tomorrow? One of the firms offered a kilo of rice as gift if they would be allowed to come and give us a price! Well, the following week we had Mr Kato at our house giving us a price. A couple of hours later ANOTHER Kato-san from a different company sat at the same table with us (giving us a VERY similar price too). Last one was Mr Miyagi (!) dressed in the takubin uniform.

Well, may the best man win. Did not realise the obvious fierce competition between moving companies. Mahalo.
