All in a days work
8th March 2007

Pretending to work is done a lot in a offices around the world from what I have heard. In my business as a freelance cameraman it is more difficult. I have to work when I am on a job. Except this time.
Got a call for a job last week that turned out to be different. Sony is promoting the CineAlta camera at NAB in Las Vegas and for that they produced a promotional film here in Japan. Turns out they wanted a western looking crew to operate the camera for the film. This created a scenario where a western looking crew pretended to operate the CineAlta and was a the same time shot by a Japanese “real” crew.

So I spent a day sitting on a crane, pretending to pull focus. The Japanese crew shot us with one of the strangest cameras I have seen. The Megavision. Huge lens and three camera modules. This to create an very wide image. The aspect ration was double that of 16:9. A real letterbox for sure.
After a while the Jamaican caterer arrived. Rice and beans Jamaican style after a hard days work. Mahalo.
