I just came back from a couple of days of skiing. Japan has a lot to offer in this area. Skiing can be done all over the place in Japan, this time I went to Hokkaido, the large northern island. Flying for only an hour with a 747 from Tokyo took me to Chitose airport in Sapporo City. From there it’s a three hour bus ride to the very snowy slopes of Niseko. Read the rest of this entry »

1. A lot of Japanese companies makes their employees wear a Santa suit the days around Christmas. OK, it is funny and cute but after a while it kinda gets to you. The workers at Seven-Eleven are Santa! The guy driving the delivery truck is Santa! Tokyo in December is like that skit by Monty Python where everyone is Superman, but with Santa instead !

2. All the people handing out tissue paper and flyers in the streets are now…. Santa !

3. Even the really scary robots are Santa! Shot this in a toy store in Shibuya.

More than fifty thousand people had gathered in the Tokyo Dome on December 2 to see the finals in the K-1 World GP 2006. A noisy arena, but the cheapest tickets for 4000 yen give a nice view from the gallery. They always have the same female announcer at the K1 here in Tokyo and her high pitched voice is not the highlight of the event. Winner of this years K1 World GP 2006 in Tokyo is Semmy Schilt! He beat Peter Aerts in the final who had to stand in for Remy Bonjasky who had been kicked in the balls. More about this soon!
