Ikea to open second store in Japan
27th August 2006
This weekend furniture giant IKEA gave a preview of their new store in Japan. On September 15 the new store in Yokohama will open. After the first successful store in Chiba, east of Tokyo, it’s now time for store number two in Yokohama, west of Tokyo.
The exhibition is at the red brick warehouse in Yokohama. Check out how their new store looks:
The idea of showing the rooms like separate boxes is good. Walking around here gives you the same feeling you get in an IKEA store. “This could be your room” sort of. Making the rooms chunky boxes stresses the fact that the room in itself is on display, not only what’s in it.
If you have been to IKEA this will be familiar. I guess that’s the idea. They’ve got their concept. Styles and colors look good to me too. Not to much, still not discreet or boring. Some of the stuff I could very well have bought there and then.
The exhibit will be around until September 9 if you wanna check it out. It’s located outside the Red Brick Warehouse in the port of Yokohama. To find it take Minatomirai line from Yokohama to the station Minatomirai. Follow the signs to Aka Renga.
For those of you who can wait until the store opens at September 15, here’s how to get there. From Shin Yokohama there will be a free bus every half hour. You can also take bus 41 from the station Okurayama (Toyoko Line) to Shinkaibashi.
